New 3ft freshwater aquarium project !

The art of freshwater aquascaping is definitely a tiring yet satisfying hobby
It requires a lot of investments not only in terms of money, but time, effort, knowledge and passion
I took off from an unknowledgeable beginning with fake plants that rusted and uprooted through time
But the curiosity and eagerness in getting my own planted freshwater aquarium just like those in pet shops brought me here today
It seemed like an easy job at first, but the plants turned yellow, fishes died and algae sprouts
But through much time and money investments with lots and lots of reading, I finally understand (atleast some of) the basics of a planted freshwater aquarium
Though mom and dad wasn't too happy with my new 3ft aquarium, but i kept seeing them sitting in front of my aquarium every morning smiling and admiring the plants and fishes
That, really satisfied me
Ohwell, theres much much much more to learn from the latest upgrading project
A 2ft (10gal) planted freshwater aquarium to a 3ft (30gal) planted freshwater aquarium
I am still waiting for the water to be fully cycled and the plants blooming lusciously
Please please please let this be a successful one
:)

Another new green project

Another new green project
Experimenting with different frewater plants of various difficulty levels
Cabomba Carolinianas
Glossostigma Elatinoides
Ludwigia Glandulosa
Vallesneria Nana
Hydrocotyle Verticillata

Getting ready for plantation..

Happy discus hiding between the plants..

Readjusted the position of CO2 diffuser and filter output to create a proper flow and minimum surface turbulence to allow maximum CO2 diffusion into the water..

After few hours of shopping and plating, finally its done :)
Some beautiful Nymphaea lotus at the centre with some anubias at both sides and Vesicularia Dubyana (Christmass moss) tied to the driftwoods. Some trimming were done before planting

A small nano tank experimenting with some plants..

Freshwater plants releasing oxygen bubbles..

Freshwater plants bubbling with oxygen in my planted aquarium
A natural miracle that never fail to amaze me :)

Vesicularia dubyana

Vesicularia dubyana (Christmas)
Family : Hypnaceae
Origin : Brazil
Height : 1-3 cm
Width : 3-5 cm
Temperature : 15-28 degrees celcius
GH : 1-30dH
pH : 5.5-8

One of the nicest moss that I've seen. Difficulty level could be slightly above average and it could be one of the shrimp's favourite food. Let's see how it progresses after a month or so.

The Sulawesi Snail

Some underwater creature that were adopted..
Water parameters were still unstable in the glass tank
pH values kept on running up and down and siphoning the water for water changes is tough in the vertical glass tank
Ohwell, better luck in 2011 for a nano shrimp tank

A joyful evening..

The date was 08/09/10
But how could it be so eventful and filled with tragedies ?
Oh well, am eggcited for Hari Raya this year
Had the most memorable 'seek-for-forgiveness' session at station yesterday :)

Ohwell, more great memories are yet to come in the next few months..
